About Us
I am Erik Paul, founder of Mountain River Wood Co., and this is truly a passion project for me.
My grandfather was a school principal during his working career, and when he retired, he took up woodworking. He was always in his shop, making beautiful pieces of furniture with excellent technique. The house I grew up in was filled with tables and cabinets he had built for us. He even made the rocking horse my brother and I loved as young kids. Some of my favourite memories are spending time with him in his shop, learning how to use tools like the bandsaw and the drill press, but never touching the table saw because it was too dangerous! I always wanted to be able to make things that had the same heirloom-type quality as what Grandpa had made for us.
I grew up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, about an hour away from the world-renowned Banff National Park, always with a view of the mountains. Very few things create the feeling of endless possibilities the way driving into the Rocky Mountains does. Whether hiking, camping, golfing, snowboarding, or just sitting on a patio and enjoying a cold beer, the majesty of the Rockies has continually inspired me.
I try to channel that feeling when I am designing or building something to combine the quality of Grandpa’s craftsmanship with the magnificence of the Rocky Mountains.

Now, I am lucky enough to run Mountain River Wood Co. with my wife Kristyn, who is an Environmental Engineer by day, but helps me with the website and the business operations by night. Our product design is a team effort, that usually involves multiple iterations of me thinking something is done, and Kristyn sending me back into the shop to make a few more improvements!
We are having a blast running Mountain River Wood Co. and hanging out with our goldendoodle, Finnegan. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have questions about our products or if you want a no obligation consultation for custom work.
